Our little town

For you home-town readers, Tallahassee has found its way once again into a national magazine.  In February's issue of Southern Living.
You'll have to pick up a paper copy to see the article, but a lovely home was featured built by one of my two favorite builders in town, Sheffield Construction.  He does gorgeous work with attention to every detail.  I love a builder who cares about consistancy of style and quality through a home, not just making things big!
(My other favorite builder in town is K2 if you are curious.)

Which brings me to how I know who is who.  Quickly approaching is one of my FAVORITE things each year, Parade of Homes.  Tallahassee's is May 8-9 and 15-16 for 2010.  When is your town's?

I plan around these weekends each year!  And I kid you not, I have planned vacations to other places based on their Parades.  Raleigh has so much to choose from if you cared to know.  I count it vacation to stroll through beautiful homes and see the creativity and craft of true artists!

Paint it black

I love black paint.  Love, love, love.  I've painted side tables, doors, switch plates (textured black,) and kitchen chairs.

We picked these up when a restaurant was closing (O'Charlie's I think).  So they are seriously sturdy, but they are just a few shades off from our table so...paint them black.

Since these chairs had professional grade laquer on them, I stripped them completely.  Kitchen chairs get so much wear and tear, it is worth doing it right the first time.  You can see in this picture I had my primer tinted as well which made it go much easier.

Two more to go.  I also plan to paint my wood, honey colored high chair to match.  Unfortunately, pollen season has set in, so it will have to hold off a little while so they don't become yellow polka dotted chairs.

So do yourself a favor, paint something black.  And if you're like me, you'll love it, so go ahead and buy a full gallon!

Emblesh me Floral!

Ever since I read this blog post I have wanted to make these delightful flowers, but have not had luck finding ribbon worthy of the task. This weekend I took my mom out to Havanna, FL to visit the antique stores (a fun day for you Tallahassee locals.)  There is a eclectic little shop there that sells ribbon and buttons and the end product was this!

Cute huh?  Can't wait to wear it.  In my hair.  On my sweater.  On my purse.  I see more of these in my future.  Also, a very good reason to keep extra buttons when you buy clothes, that is where the gem in the middle came from.

Not to mention, is this dress form cute or what?  $9 at Ross.  Score.

Happy February

After KM's series on shadowboxes here and here, I was so pleased to receive my February edition of Martha Stewart Living.  If you don't subscribe to this magazine you could pick it up at the store, but with the 12 for $15 offer they are running, you might as well enjoy it monthly for less!

Take a look at these featured shadowboxes, so clever and lovely!

I especially like the one with the picture of the child paining placed on top of a water color painting with the brush and paints underneath.
